Minister Emeritus Rev. Kenneth Read-Brown

The Reverend Kenneth Read-Brown served as settled minister of First Parish, Old Ship Church for 35 years from 1987 to 2022. During his ministry, he was known for his kindness, intelligence, humor, and leadership. Ken regularly led adult classes in religion, philosophy, poetry and other subjects. He is an accomplished banjo and guitar player and shared his love of music at services, the monthly Ceilidh, and other events. During Ken’s Old Ship ministry, Old Ship became a Welcoming Congregation and a Green Sanctuary. Upon his retirement, Ken was named a “Hingham History Maker” by the Hingham Historical Society; he now devotes much of his time to family, and to climate activism on the communications team of Elders Climate Action. He resides in Hingham with his wife Susan. They have three grown and married children and seven grandchildren. Ken earned a BA in philosophy from Haverford College and his Master of Divinity from the Starr King School for the Ministry in Berkeley, CA.
