Sunday worship services are held every Sunday from the first Sunday in September after Labor Day through the third Sunday of June. We have one service each Sunday at 10:30 AM, which normally lasts about an hour. Click here for a sample Order of Worship from a recent service. Where are you located? We are located at 90 & 14 Main Streets in Hingham. The Meeting House, where worship services are held, is at 90 Main Street. Children’s Religious Education, nursery care, bathrooms and coffee hour are all in the office located at 14 Main Street. Where do I park, and what door should I enter? You can park along Main Street on either side of the street. . Handicapped parking at the Meeting House is located directly beside the main door. Enter the Meeting House through the door closest to the driveway. On Sunday morning, it is normally open and greeters are waiting for visitors. For those who have difficulty navigating stairs, there is a ramp toward the rear of the Meeting House that leads to a door with no stairs. Following the service, please come to 14 Main Street and join us for coffee, conversation, and various "second-hour" programs in Fellowship Hall. What should I wear? Our suggestion is to come however you are comfortable. You will see a wide range of styles of dress at our services, from jeans and sneakers to suits and dresses. When there is an after-service event, or when the weather is bad, people often dress more casually. At traditionally important services such as Christmas and Easter, they often dress more formally. It's up to you. How can I get more information? Before and after any Sunday service there are members of the Members and Friends Committee at who can help you and or your children find your way, answer any questions, sign you up to receive our newsletter, or connect you with the Minister or the Director of Religious Education. At other times, you can call the church office (781-749-1679), or send us an inquiry by email. Additional information about our denomination is available from the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations; at their website, www.uua.org. Do you ever cancel Sunday services? On rare occasions Sunday services will be canceled when severe winter weather makes traveling unsafe. If you have questions about whether services are being held, please call the Church office at 781-749-1679 and listen to the voice message there. Tell me more about Coffee Hour in 14 Main Street. You are cordially invited to join us for coffee, tea and conversation at 14 Main Street, immediately following our Sunday service. "Coffee Hour" generally runs from 11:45 to 12:30, and is a great opportunity for members, friends and visitors to get to know each. Be sure to stop by the Members and Friends table for answers to any questions you might have about our congregation. Are my children welcome to attend worship service with me? We recognize that you may want to keep your child(ren) with you. Two rocking chairs are provided in the sanctuary for parents with infants. Our Religious Education for Pre-K through Grade 12, takes place in 14 Main Street at the same time as the worship service. On most Sundays, children start the service in the sanctuary with us, and then leave with their teachers after the "Time for all ages". If you're visiting Old Ship for the first time, and you are interested in children's programs, please let the greeters know, and they will introduce you to the Nursery care providers or the Sunday school teachers. (Please note that there is nursery care, but no R.E. classes during the 10:30 a.m. Summer Services.) How do I learn more about Religious Education? Please visit the the learning section of our website. |
