The SPIRAL is a pattern found in nature.
Based upon the spiral, LABYRINTHS have symbolized the SACRED since ancient times. The earliest known forms appeared in the Ukraine and Siberia around 20,000 B.C. Labyrinthine designs appear on pottery, tablets, coins and tiles, often dating as far back as 4000 years. In medieval Europe, walking a labyrinth symbolized a PILGRIMAGE made by the faithful. The very devoted would walk it on their knees.
Labyrinths are known by many names.
Native Americans call it the MEDICINE WHEEL.
To the Celts, it is the NEVER ENDING CIRCLE.
In mystical Judaism, it is called the KABALA.
As a path of prayer and meditation, the Labyrinth speaks to all peoples, regardless of religious tradition.
